Team Insights: Sara Liu

Welcome back to Team Insights, where we offer you a chance to get to know a Microbiome Insights team member on a deeper level. For our ninth Team Insights, we'd like to continue showcasing the individuals who play an integral role in the maintenance and improvement of our software systems. Meet, Sara Liu, our newest software developer.

 

Hey Sara, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions. As one of our more recent hires, we'd love to get to know you a bit more.

What interests you most about the area of the microbiome?

A: I find it amazing how the microbiome is everywhere and how changes in the microbiome can be an indicator of health problems within our bodies.

What do you do at Microbiome Insights? Describe your role?

A: I am a software developer. I’ve been working with Hatem on the Client Portal App, in order to make it more convenient for clients to communicate with us.

What software are you currently studying?

A: I’ve been studying Vue JS recently for the client portal app. Vue JS is a frontend javascript framework that has some similarities to the more popular React JS.

What do you enjoy most about Microbiome Insights so far?

A: Everyone on the team is friendly, hardworking, and very knowledgeable.

How would you describe your job to a bunch of five-year-olds?

A: I make websites!

What are your passions outside of work?

A: I enjoy photography, painting, hiking, and yoga.

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

A: I can bake butter cookies.

If you could get a new skill in 10 minutes, what would it be?

A: I’d love to be able to pick up new languages quickly. For example, learning every new language within 10 minutes

How have you made the most of your time working from home?

A: Working from home has been fantastic. I’ve been able to exercise and cook more often with the time saved from commuting to the office. 

What’s your favorite music genre?

A: I enjoy pop music in many languages. One of my favorites recently is Swedish pop.

Can you recommend an artist to someone trying to get into Swedish Pop?

A: Oscar Zia’s album Din has some of my favorite Swedish songs.

If you could make any fictional creature real, which would you choose?

A: It would be cool if dragons were real because then there could be dragon riders.

I've been told you've lived in a lot of different places. What was your favorite city to live in?

A: Every city has been great in its own way! My favorite city has been Ottawa because of how convenient and cozy it felt. But Los Angeles and Vancouver have been very fun places to live in too.

Where do you want to travel to most post-pandemic?

A:I would love to visit my friends in Europe and Japan.
